5 Lifestyle Tips to improve your skin - don't fall for the overcomplicated skincare hype!
Your skin is a little dry and lackluster...
You quickly run into a store to buy a face cream and you are overwhelmed with rows of products making all kinds of promises. You walk in with ashy skin, but now you wonder if you have other issues.
Or, you are searching online looking for recommended products; you see everyone recommending 10 step routines for glass skin or a routine that is supposed to rewind the hands of time with a product that is sold in a 14k gold bottle. Meanwhile, all you want is to NOT look like a zombie extra on the cast of The Walking Dead.
If skincare feels more complicated than ever, it is not because your skin suddenly became more demanding. It is because the industry marketing became louder.
According to Statista, the cosmetic industry, pumps nearly $8 billion USD annually in marketing. Every season brings a new product, a new problem, and a new area of the body we are told needs its own solution. One cream for hands. Another for elbows. One for neck. One for chest. One for sleep. One for stress. Somewhere along the way, skincare stopped being about skin and started being about consumption.
Don't believe the hype!
The truth is simpler & less profitable.
Your skin does not need MORE products.
It needs consistency.
Here are 5 researched-backed lifestyle tips to address and improve your skin concerns:
1. Get your rest - when you sleep your body is repairing and rejuvenating by boosting productions of proteins like collagen and elastin which are key players in the vibrancy of your skin. Looking a little pale, you probably need more sleep.
Tip: Aim for 7 - 10 hours of quality sleep

2. Reduce stress - excessive stress for prolonged time will wreak havoc on your digestive and central nervous system. It will show up on your body as premature wrinkles and premature greying. It also triggers acne, eczema, psoriasis, and other inflammation ailments. No product will be able to hide the damage of prolonged stress.
Tip: prioritizing stress reduction in your life. Seek medical support, increase rest, increase physical activity, improve nutrition, do whatever you can to manage stress levels.
3. Increased hydration - a hydrated body will physically perform better; think better and will have a healthier appearance. Think of it as hydrating from the inside out.
Tip: use humidifier in dry environments and increase consumption of foods and drinks with high water content.
4. Balanced eating habits with healthy fats - Eating healthy fats supports collagen production; helps protect from UV damage; enhances radiance, and locks in moisture.
Tip: reduce processed foods and swap for healthy fats; avoid eating foods you have slight intolerances as some symptoms show up on the skin. Keep a skin diary, when you have a skin reaction was it something you ate, lack of sleep, increased stress... This helps track habits you skin likes or does not like.
5. Protect skin from the Elements - Extreme heat, extreme cold, harsh winds, and pollution are all elements to protect the skin from. They can irritate your and strip moisture causing discomfort and/or scarring on the skin. So think about sun protection all year round. Protection does not have to be a product, it can be wearing the right clothing to protect your skin.
Tip: In warm climate, carry or wear light breathable clothing to cover skin and significantly reduce UV exposure and use products that have some SPF protection. In cold climates make sure skin is hydrated and moisturized and wear protective clothing to keep in body heat. But the right amount of sun not only gives a natural radiance, vitamin D is also great for your mental health.

I know, I know, you may have heard these tips in some capacity before. But I cannot tell you how many times I get asked if my brand has products for dry skin, for acne, hyperpigmentation or for [insert skin concern here]. I can easily say, "yes", but I rather have dialogue and ask questions focused on routines to assess if Botaniq Luxe would be the right fit because I believe your products should fit your lifestyle.
Addressing skin concerns takes more than a product in a bottle. I know from experience. I suffered from severe acne, which then caused hyperpigmentation due to the acne scarring. I also have eczema which is triggered by food intolerances, and long sun exposure. When I created Botaniq Luxe, I did it from the lens of someone with "problematic" skin. I felt like I had no control on what was happening to my body and I relied on products that only made my concerns worse.
Through research, trial and error, home remedies, formulations, and life changes. I learned that my skin told me what it did and did not like; and my skin issues only improved when I listened to it. Then I built my lifestyle routines around it. I can tell you I use way less products than I did before...
So what now?
These tips are just the beginning of what I will share from all of my lessons learned and research. I encourage you to implement at least 1 tip from above in your routine or lifestyle for the next 30 days. Track to see if you recognize any differences, not just in your skin, but in other areas as well (mood, energy, mental clarity)
